Hi, I'm Katherine!
Currently, I am designing tutor-facing tools at PLUS and pursuing my Master in Human-Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University.
Things I’ve worked on recently include facilitating co-design workshops with UPMC clinicians to explore how AI can improve outcomes for ventilated patients and working with a Pittsburgh high-school to design an app that builds emotional awareness in students.
My journey from healthcare to design
Previously, I worked as a Care Coordinator at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where I created streamlined experiences for clinicians and patients. The best part of my job was making an impact on people everyday—whether that was helping doctors deliver timely care or expediting the journey for patients. Immersed in the realities of the healthcare system, I constantly asked myself “how could things be different?” The opportunity to create "small wins" through creative problem-solving inspired me to become a designer.
My perspective
I obtained my Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College where I was constantly pushed to think critically, articulate sound ideas, and embrace curiosity. As a result, I approach design with intentionality, questioning normative assumptions and considering the ethical implications of my work.
Life is precious. More than ever, we have a responsibility to create technology that nurtures life.
